💡 UAE Gratuity Tips

Only Basic Salary Counts

UAE gratuity is calculated on basic salary only — not allowances like housing, transport, or food allowances. Make sure you use only your basic monthly salary.

Minimum 1 Year Required

You must complete at least 1 year of continuous service to be entitled to gratuity. If you resign before 1 year, you get nothing. Between 1-3 years resignation gets 1/3 of gratuity.

Capped at 2 Years Salary

UAE law caps total gratuity at 2 years basic salary regardless of how many years you work. So even after 20 years, the maximum is 24 months basic salary.

New UAE Labour Law 2022

Since February 2022, UAE moved to unlimited contracts only. All employees now get full gratuity regardless of resignation reason after completing 1 year.

How is UAE gratuity calculated?

UAE gratuity = 21 days basic salary per year for the first 5 years, then 30 days per year for every year beyond 5 years. Daily wage = basic monthly salary ÷ 30.

Do I get gratuity if I resign in UAE?

Yes. Under the new UAE Labour Law (2022), all employees get full gratuity after completing 1 year, even if they resign. Previously, resignation reduced gratuity entitlement.

Is UAE gratuity taxable?

No. UAE has no income tax, so your gratuity is received completely tax-free regardless of how large it is.
